Visit to our schools in Kalimpong

Ann and Brian went to visit our Children in Kalimpong. This is Ann’s record of their trip. We left the UK on the last day of October and arrived in Kalimpong on the 2nd of November. The 40-mile trip from the plains up into the hills was, as always, difficult. Landslides of boulders and soil are common at this time of the year. Some roads [...]

In 2022 RTL entered its 7th year. Having dealt with political protests, military curfews, earthquakes, rice shortage for our mums, Covid-19 closing schools and its travel restrictions, 2022 took us into a new exciting phase. During 2021 we began working with three new schools in Kalimpong and at the start of the 2022 academic year, we started 45 children in nursery and kindergarten - more than [...]

Room to Learn have adopted home teaching methods for boys and girls whose families live below the poverty line (BPL families live on less than £1.50 per day). Our teaching staff are putting together weekly learning programmes for the children to use [...]

Conclusion to 2020

On 2nd of March, our school year began well, with 24 new pupils resulting from Ann's leafleting and visits to the nearby Bear's Den region (about 8km away from Happy days School) and Khop Mountain. This intake included 3 sets of twins! Looking to the future, Brian and Ann used our donated bus to visit the Peshok Tea Gardens. The plantation has been abandoned and all [...]

Trustees’ Spring visit to Kalimpong School

Three of our trustees, Ann (CEO), Brian and Jenny have just gone out to Happy Days Nursery. I will let you know how they got on when they come back.  They have a lot planned to prepare for the start of the new school year on 2nd March.  They are currently helping to ready the classrooms. Brian is constructing some additional classroom furniture and building and [...]

RTL Party 2019

On August 3rd Ann and Brian opened their home and garden for Room to Learn UK’s main fund-raising event. It ensures that Happy Days nursery remains open. We recruit boys and girls from poverty-stricken families and our charity provides a free pre-school learning environment for these little ones. Over eighty people - families, couples, young and old walked down the leafy Cotswold village lane. The [...]
