During the pandemic, charities have faced many challenges. For us, the Happy Days nursery in Kalimpong, West Bengal, India remains closed due to lockdown. Room to Learn have adopted home teaching methods for boys and girls whose families live below the poverty line (BPL families live on less than £1.50 per day).
Our teaching staff are putting together weekly learning programmes for the children to use at home, encouraging them to speak, write and read the alphabet and numbers in their own language and English. Colours and shapes are also identified. This is being delivered online and via home visits, helping ensure their learning continues to protect the futures of these most disadvantaged children.
