In 2022 RTL entered its 7th year. Having dealt with political protests, military curfews, earthquakes, rice shortage for our mums, Covid-19 closing schools and its travel restrictions, 2022 took us into a new exciting phase.

During 2021 we began working with three new schools in Kalimpong and at the start of the 2022 academic year, we started 45 children in nursery and kindergarten – more than double previous years!  All of these children are from Below Poverty Line families, the very poorest.

We extended our contacts with the network of local dignitaries in Kalimpong despite the travel restrictions in place at that time.  Their assistance in helping us to expand our provision in 2022 was amazing.

Thank you also to the heads of schools who recognise our charitable works and have chosen to work with us.

Our new ways of working have enabled us to take on more children at a lower overall cost per child.  We believe this will enable us to reach more families, possibly in other locations.  All of this is of course only possible with the support of our incredibly generous donors.  Thank you.

Schools in Kalimpong

All of the schools are incredible to work with.  There is no trace of ‘Old India’.  All are very professional and committed to working with us to improve the lives of the children we bring to them.

Paramount

Paramount is one of the largest schools in Kalimpong.  Their visionary head is a delight to work with.  This one school now helps us educate more children in total than we ever educated before.

North Point

North Point is a smaller school in Kalimpong.  The owner/head is fantastic to work with and helps us in all sorts of ways.  They have room to expand our provision and they have a sister school in Sikkim, Darjeeling.  Might Sikkim be a future place for RTL to operate?

Pioneer

Pioneer is a smaller school in Kalimpong.  Their head is lovely to work with.  Pioneer has room to expand our provision.
